SENIOR REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY, COMMERCIAL LEASING

This is a senior in-house counsel role with a large, privately held real estate company that owns and operates a diversified national portfolio of over 1,000 properties and 56 million square feet across retail, office, industrial, hotel, residential, and land holdings. The role sits inside the legal and leasing function, working closely with leasing agents, brokers, and cross-functional teams on deal execution and portfolio protection.
What You Would Own:
Partner with leasing agents on deal structure, prospective tenant proposals, letters of intent, and restriction language, meeting regularly to review lease terms and status.
Present proposed and executed lease deals and amendments, and adjust position as terms evolve.
Negotiate leases, amendments, waivers, subordination agreements, estoppels, and termination agreements with tenants, brokers, and outside counsel; draft and revise lease documents for new and renewing tenants.
Gather exhibits and information from other departments to finalize lease review, and direct administrative staff on implementing lease terms such as commencement dates.
Support purchase and sale contract preparation and due diligence work ahead of closings.
Track lease obligations, deadlines, exclusives, and restrictions across the portfolio to avoid violations.
Prepare post-execution documents, including waivers, SNDAs, and tenant improvement allowance paperwork.
Advise on insurance claims, lease disputes, and collections matters, and support eminent domain matters and government incentive applications.
What We're Looking For:
J.D. and 7+ years practicing law, with specific commercial real estate leasing experience.
Strong background in contract negotiation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage a high volume of active files at once.
Compensation:
Base salary $150,000 – $270,000, flexible for the right candidate depending on geographic location and experience.
